Final Pages!
Hey Everybody,
When Cap first got home to Garland, I could think that right away he was missing Clavrage School and everything that he had done for the past 2 months even though the whole time he was there he was wishing that he was back at Garland again. I also think that Rain doesn't want to talk about it because she might feel that she is losing him. When Cap wrote that note to Rain about going to the Halloween dance, I knew that he knew that Garland wasn't the place for him and he wanted to go back to the real world. I was so happy when Sophie came to pick Cap up because that meant that she didn't completely hate him and forget about him when he left.
At the beginning of chapter 28, when Ms.D was so worried about Sophie. I thought that Sophie should have told her where she was going because I think that Ms.D would have supported her in doing the right thing.
On page 190, I got a full understanding of what Hugh really was on the inside. All he wanted from the start even before Cap was there was to be popular. Wanting this made him jelous, mean and make him do stuff that was really hurtful and could have killed someone. I think now that from the biginning Hugh was using Cap. Especially when he had to make fake tears at "Cap's memorial Service".
Speaking of the memorial service, You know how we talked about Cap changing everyone in the book but not really changing himself, well I thought that on page 192 there was all the things that Cap did to change and help all the other kids. I thought that was a really powerful page.
At Cap's memorial survice, when he started saying goodbye to everyone by name, I was amazed. I mean at the beginning of the book Zach only told him to do that as a joke and I think that since he actually took the time to learn everyone's name that is truly amazing. "Eleven Hundred Students. Eleven Hundred Names. He never hesitated, and he never got one wrong."
You know when we were talking about how Cap didn't change at our group meeting. Well he might not have changed but he sure learned a lot. (Example: on page 204 he says everything that he learned from his 2 short months at Claverage Middle School. It is truly extrodinary how he learned all these things but most of them we knew when we were maybe 4 or 5.)
I always thought that Cap was going to stay in the city and continue going to school there, but it was still a real shock when they sold Garland for 17 MILLION DOLLARS.
I also didn't expect Rain to show up in a Mercedes wearing a designer blouse. That was quite a surprise.
On the last page of the book I smiled at the exact same time that Cap's did. I am glad that things worked out and that he can go to school in the real world. (Plus he gets to watch t&t again.) I thought that the last line of the book was really powerful and could mean a lot of different things. "And I already knew all of there names." I think this means that he didn't know at first what he wanted but when it came down to the final decision he choose that he wanted to go to school with people so he could have friends and learn about stuff in the outside world. I thought this was a really powerful ending.
I LOVE THIS BOOK! I loved reading it as well.

Schooled!
Sorry that I haven't blogged yet. I am going to now.
I was really surprised when Cap went home to Garland because I thought that he would end up liking school and stay but I guess when you get tackled by the whole football team and get punched in the nose which is so hard to have to go to the hospital, you wouldn't be in a hurry to go back to that school. On page 146 when Cap told Sophie he was leaving she didn't really understand what he meant so she just thought that he was going somewhere and he would be back, she didn't realize that he would be going forever that is why i think that she said "Don't let the door slap you in the butt on the way out." I think she meant it as a harmless joke but then when she heard that he was going forever she got nicer and helped him pack and etc.
I like how Zach Powers is finally get what he deserves because he was so mean to people. Now people hate him and are mean to HIM. I don't know why everyone thinks that Cap is dead, but i guess they do have something to base that off of. Cap went to the hospital in an ambulance and he never came back to school but i don't think they should be so quick to think the worst thing that could happen. He could have just came back from where he first came from. (which he did)
I think it is good that people are finally stand in up for Cap even though they might be a little late. Better late than never. like on page 166 "but then some of us saw the kind of person Cap was, Some of us appreciate how he devoted his heart and soul to the school."This shows them standing up to Zach.
I think that if Zach had wanted to be popular in a good way not a bad/mean way things would have been different now. He wouldn't be picked on and be getting spit balls thrown at him. He still would be popular. This all happened because he made the wrong decision. When Zach was printing up the Tribute to Cap thing. I think that he didn't really believe his world he just wrote what the public wanted to hear so he could be popular again.
I stopped at page 177 right before chapter 27. I stopped here and predicted what might happen next and i think that Sophie will try and get in contact with Cap so that she can pick him up from Garland and bring him to the Halloween dance so he can get a chance to party for the first time.
thanks for reading

P.S. i think that it is weird that we are reading about a school around Halloween time when it is around Halloween time right now in the real world.

Our Predictions for the end of the Book
During the novel groups we predicted on what we thought was going to happen at the end of the book. I am going to post our predictions so you can disscus them and make changes if you want.
Tess's Prediction: Cap is going to end up back with Sophie in the outside world (not go back to Garland)
Emily's Prediction: Ms.D is going to be sad that Cap is leaving and she will invite Rain and Cap to stay with her (maybe Rain will die)
Sarah V's Prediction: Rain will go back to being a taxi driver or an other job. Cap will go back to school and stay with Ms.D and Sophie.
Henry's Prediction: Rain is going to move to the town that the school is in and buy a house. She is going to go back to being a taxi driver. (She might also die.) Cap will stay in the town and go to school.
Sarah W's Prediction: Cap will think twice about going back to Garland because he understands school more now and since he has made some more friends he likes it now. Knowing this he will ask Rain to stay so he can still go to the school. He might also ask her if they can buy a tv so they can watch t&t.

All round predictions:
-they will stay in the town but go to Garland in the summer time for a holiday
-they will have Garland to farm and to grow food
-Nobody thinks that Cap will go back to Garland
Thank you Sarah W

Quotes
This is the post where everyone should post there favourite quotes not just Cap's because other people have them too, just like we started doing in the novel groups. But please don't write paragraphs on what the characters did in the book or what you like or dislike about the book(you can write that stuff on the group leaders blog), just the quote the person who said the quote and your name. Thanks everyone!

Response to Sarah's Blog
Why is Sophie so mean to Cap? Do you think that Zach and his Crew that are helping him be mean to Cap get Caught sometime? I think that Zach is popular in a bad way not in a good way and he wants to stay popular. I think he is popular in a bad way because he is the one who take the "L" of the Claverage Middle School to make it C Average Middle School which is taking school property. Plus he is mean to Cap and before Cap was there he probably was mean to the biggest dork then. I don't think anybody wants to step up and say that he is really mean and that he should stop because then that person would probably be his next victim that he picks on. I think that he is being really mean to Cap to make him the president of the school when it is only his first few weeks at the school and he hardly knows where everything is. I think he is going really low when he makes a fake secret admirer that likes him and steals his shoes.I just keep thinking that Rain is going to get better soon and he won't have to go to this school anymore and he can go home.
I agree with you Emily because i don't understand why Naomi likes him when he is so mean. I don't think that Lena is that much of a main Character because Naomi pushes her out of the picture so she can get Zach to like her and we don't get to hear Lena's point of view about what is happening. I was quite surprised when Naomi went outside to help Cap bury the dead bird that SHE put in his locker. I don't think her full mind agreed with her when she did that like in the play we watched "The Invisible Girl" because the main character in the play put her hand up to nominate someone even if her full mind didn't want to do that her body did it because it was right. I get from the text that Naomi's full mind wasn't with having a funeral with Cap because the book says "I caught a disapproving look from Zach on the other side of the window, and silently cursed myself for making a mistake Lena never would have made. Yet it seemed so RIGHT, and I couldn't be sorry for that." That made me happy because Naomi finally stepped out of her shell and did the right thing.
I think that pages 41 and 42 say a lot about Caps character because he shows him finding the dead bird then burying it. To me that says that he cares about nature and that he is a very kind person. It also kind of says to me that he thinks that nobody deserves to die and that is they do they should have somewhere to R.I.P.. You can also tell a little bit about Caps character on page 48 when Sophie pours a bucket of water on his head when he was outside on the lawn because instead od screaming at her and hitting her or something he smiled at her. This shows that he thinks that violence is not the answer.
I don't know why Sophie is so mean to Cap. It might be because she doesn't want some stranger to randomly come and live in her house but she should still give him a chance. I also think that she should stop taking everything that he does so personally. When I heard that her parents were just divorced and that she was sad about it I felt sorry for her because i have gone through that to and I kind of forgave her for being so mean but then I thought that she shouldn't take all her anger out on Cap.
Cap has some really great Quotes that I think have great messages some of them are "When you are unkind to others, it is usually because you don't believe that you, yourself deserve kindness." or " I guess when you have a lot of people in your life, there is more of a chance that someone will let you down."

Interesting Fact: something that I noticed when reading the book is that at every new chapter the peace sign on the page is in a different place every time.-Sarah W

Picture About Hippies
here is a picture that might relate to are book because it is some hippies that painted a school bus in lots of different colours that kind of look like dye tyeSarah
Cover!!
You know how we talked about the front cover during our novel group meeting and why the author choose to put certain imagery and colours to make a front text for his book. we thought at first that the colours in the windows of the school bus were rainbows but we couldn't figure out what that meant to the book/text. but when we read the first chapter or something of that sort we found out that cap was a hippie and that tye dye was something that hippies use to represent themselves so that is why tye dye was on the front text. after that we couldn't understand why hippies use tye dye to represent them.
i think that hippies use tye dye because it represents that the colours mix/blend together and that people should mix/blend together to and create peace in the world. that is why there is tye dye and a peace sign on the front cover of the book. i also think that there is a school bus there because it means that maybe a hippie is going to school. (because the windows of the school bus or tye dye) I also think that the author made the cover yellow because that is the cover that most people think of at a school, because the school buses are yellow. i guess the primary school colours that are thought of are yellow and brick.
What do you think?
